Creating a Bootable Disc

Postby The Warden » Wed Nov 26, 2008 1:56 pm

Hi, I have a bunch of files I would like to burn to an ISO image that is bootable. I started a new project, Data CD. I then added all the files I want and labeled the disc. Then I go to the Project Properties and then to the "Boot" tab. At this point I'm now confused what to do next. Its asking for a boot image, however I want to create a bootable image not create a new image of an image. What do I have to do at this point to ensure I make the disc I create bootable? Why is it asking for a boot image? Also what should the Emulation Type be set to? If I need to set it to "Hard disk", what should the "Boot load segment" and "Boot load size" values be set to?

Any suggestions, comments or direction would be much appreciated.

You'll need a boot image in order to create a bootable disc. The boot image is used for booting some operating system, possibly the operating system you're recording to the disc have a boot image that you can access in some way. InfraRecorder does not have any facilities for creating your own boot images.

Are you perhaps confusing bootable discs with discs with an auto start feature? Unfortunately InfraRecorder does not have any facilities for creating auto starting discs but I believe there are other free software available that allows you to do prepare the data to allow auto start before recording it with InfraRecorder.

Hi kindahl, thanks for the reply. Oh okay, well that makes sense then. Its been so long since I've created a bootable disc I couldn't recall how/understand how in InfraRecorder. Thanks for the clarification.

No, I'm not referring to an auto start disc that runs within the already booted operating system. I was referring to a disc that boots at the startup of the computer, by passing the operarting system from booting up.

Sames question, except I believe I already have a boot image.

I'm burning a MSDN product to DVD, and it contains a folder called "boot". But InfraRecorder seems to be looking for a file, not a folder.

What do I need to do?

Thanks.
